A Day In The Life Of Marloes

our Test Analyst Marloes

A day in the life of Marloes

Curious about how Evolane works? Interested in a job in our team? Marloes tags you along a day in the life of and guides you through her day as a Test Analyst at Evolane. Because who is better placed to tell you about this workplace than one of your potential future colleagues?

Marloes usually starts her day around 8:30 am. As a mother of two young children, she takes a seat behind her desk after taking them to daycare and school. In the company of a large glass of water and cup of tea, Marloes checks the collective mailbox of the project she is working on and checks Slack to see if any urgent matters have arrived. Then she puts together a rough schedule based on what the day has in store! Will you dive into Marloes’ day as a Test Analyst with us?

Testing, supporting, managing

What does Marloes’ job as a Test Analyst exactly have in store? She tests all new developments in the tool, ensures that bugs are identified and verified, and change tickets are created if necessary. In addition, she provides users with support and helps them with the operation of the system where necessary. Last but not least, Marloes ensures that the developers can continue to work without losing their focus on development, by relieving them of all kinds of managing tasks. What challenges Marloes will tackle first, always depends on the priorities of the day.

Ready, set, prioritise!

In addition to her responsibility for testing, Marloes is responsible for support and management of the development team. “Test Analyst” is a versatile job, that much is clear! Depending on the moment and the problem, her priority will sometimes go to testing and other times go to support and management. Flexibility to determine these priorities is a must for Marloes: “My day is successful when I have been able to do everything I planned to do, or when I can confidently move things to the next day because more urgent things have come in.”

“Evolane is a great, family-like company that I feel very comfortable with. I have a lot of flexibility in my position with the customer. It’s a matter of give and take.

IT, an antisocial sector? No way!

Flexibility is a key value that also reflects in the way of communicating at work. Throughout the day, Marloes is in contact with her direct colleagues at the client she works for via Slack and Teams. There is also regular contact with customers, some days more than the other. In addition, there is of course the Evolane Team: “If I need help with something, my Evolane colleagues are also there for me, but I see them more at Evolane events than I do during a regular weekday,” says Marloes.

Job satisfaction? Yes please!

“Our long-term goal is to improve the tool according to the needs of the users. In the short term, this manifests itself in testing small parts of that tool, such as: testing new code to fix bugs, a new functionality, or helping a user with a question. When such a ticket is completed, it gives a sense of satisfaction.”

“Don’t hesitate, just do it.
There is only one way to find out whether a job is for you!”

Work-life balance: a matter of give and take

A good work-life balance is inherent to a job at Evolane. Marloes says: “Fortunately, I have a lot of flexibility to arrange my own hours, as long as I make sure that my job is done and I participate in the meetings. I try to schedule these as much as possible between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. This is nice as a parent of two small children. If they are in bed on time in the evening, I often continue working, which also gives me the freedom to pick up our toddler from school.” Her conclusion? “Evolane is a great, family-owned company that I feel very comfortable with. I have a lot of flexibility in my position with the customer. It’s a matter of give and take.

A day in the life of Marloes - a job in IT

A job in IT. Not for everyone?

Marloes has sometimes been surprised about the number of people walking around in IT, that are actually not technical at all. “There’s nothing wrong with that at all. It’s even very logical, because many jobs are not technical. The prejudice that employees in IT are all nerds is not correct!

Are you, as a non-technical person, hesitating about a job in IT? Marloes’s advice: “Don’t hesitate, just do it. There is only one way to find out whether a job is for you. If you don’t try, you know for sure that it won’t work. Of course you have to be interested in IT and be able to get excited about it.”
