Breaking the Ransomware Kill Chain
During Cybersec Europe 2023
The threat of ransomware attacks is at an unprecedented peak. By 2022, half of all organisations will experience an attack of this category. This came as a total surprise to half of them, because they were convinced that they were sufficiently protected. Half of the affected organisations even paid a ransom to the attackers. We notice that organisations only consciously deal with the danger after they have already fallen victim to an attack. Are companies proactive enough with ransomware protection? Presumably not.
Put a Kink in the Ransomware Kill Chain
Akamai has one answer to this question: Put a Kink in the Ransomware Kill Chain! This refers to a chain with different links as a metaphor for the different stages of a cyber attack. Akamai states that we can track or stop an attack at any of these stages by breaking the chain! In other words, the kill chain helps us understand and combat ransomware and other sophisticated attacks or security breaches.
Software Defined Network Segmentation
To break this chain, Akamai counts on its innovative “Software Defined Network Segmentation” solution. Akamai’s segmentation provides the simplest, fastest and most intuitive way to roll out Zero Trust principles across the network. The solution stops the lateral spread of ransomware by visualizing activities within IT environments, implementing accurate micro-segmentation policies and thus quickly detecting potential breaches.
Cybersec Europe 2023
On April 19 and 20, we teamed up with Akamai to tell visitors to Cybersec Europe 2023 how to break this chain. We joined forces by giving personal advice to visitors on the one hand, and plenary, informative sessions on the other. We did this by welcoming visitors to the Akamai-Evolane booth, where there was room to network and explain Akamai’s Software Defined Network Segmentation solution. On the other hand, theatre sessions were organized where Akamai expert Sjoerd Teeuwen showed the power of the solution to an audience on both exhibition days. This expert talk was recorded and can be viewed here!
